The game that time forgot

Play did not finish until 8 o’clock, but it was certainly worth the wait.

The tight side boundaries made lost balls a regular problem and play was completely disjointed.

Rosaneri won the toss and elected to bat. The wicket was in great condition and batting was always going to be a pleasure as long as you got in. Big Mike and Mr Bell got off to a great start and Mr Bell actually lost the match ball with a huge six in the second over.

Big Mike bedded himself in and played a fine supporting role for the more flamboyant batsmen at the other end. Bloater in particular cashed in and smashed some punishing boundaries in a quick fire 43.

Jim wound things up gradually and played some nice shots on the way to an unbeaten personal best of 70. Marcus and Mat Freeman both added valuable runs as Rosaneri headed to tea with a nice score that was just about par for the pitch.

The tea was a delight and the pinks headed back out with contented stomachs and full of hope.

Broxbourne got off to a steady and consistent start with two good players who propelled the home team to 100 without loss after 20 without even really giving a sniff of a chance.

Jimmy Mitchell and Nick bowled in tandem to offer completely different styles to make the batsmen think twice about all out attack. Jimmy bowled from wicket to wicket with pace and aggression, while Nick bowled his full repertoire in a run conservation day at the office.

Mat Freeman also bowled a crucial spell as the game was really in the balance.

The fielding fluctuated from super to rubbish all afternoon with Bones and Mat being the real stars on the super side of things.

The good bowling gradually got the run rate to rise and with 3 overs to go all but a disaster would see the Pinks home.

The last 3 overs passed without major incident and a great win was secured at a fantastic venue.
