The Rosaneri winning bandwagon rolls on with Mr Bell hitting a magnificent maiden hundred.
But how did the game unfold ?
Botany Bay won the toss and confidently elected to bat. But a great opening spell from Marcus and Sinders soon eroded the home team’s confidence. A combination of good fielding and some excellent nagging bowling put the pinks firmly in control.
Marcus made the breakthrough and ended his first 6 overs with very smart figures. Mat and Stephen then came into play in a masterstroke from the captain to strangle the run rate. Mat had the downhill dream end, but Stephen had to do the donkey work plugging on up the stiff climb. The runs dried up and the pressure returned crucial wickets, with Freeman taking the trophy wicket of Dan Richardson with a breathtaking first ball yorker.
At the 20 over point Botany Bay were under extreme pressure with 4 wickets down and just over 50 runs on the board.
The Bay dug in though and gradually upped the run rate until the last 8 overs that nobody could have predicted. The usually reliable second spell from Sinders turned into a nightmare and runs started to flow freely. Marcus also ruined his super figures in a second stiff looking stint, but it was the biggest shock of all that Mat Freeman had to reduce his run up to one pace in order complete his wide riddled last over.
The last 8 overs may have been a disaster, but Rosaneri still managed to take all 10 wickets and restrict the hosts to 162.
Tea was a super experience, but the mood was uncertain as to which way the contest would go.
However, as soon as Mr Bell took his guard the pinks never looked back. In fact, it was such a good start the away fans didn’t glance once at the scoreboard in terms of required run rate.
Mr Bell smashed from the off and Big Mike Tavare hung around like a bad smell in a sealed room. The Botany Bay bowling never gave the dynamic duo a worrying moment as they breezed to the club’s first ever 100 partnership for the first wicket.
Mike eventually departed with a 127 on the board and the game safely secured.
Sheridan batted with extreme politeness to give the big man a chance to reach his personal 3 figures. The ton was eventually achieved in swash buckling style with two massive sixes.
This was not only a great victory for the team, but it was also a magnificent achievement Mr Bell by hitting 104 not out. Well done sir.
