A great day, but a poor result

The trip to Tendring lived up to its hype, and a great day was had by all.

Brunch and the pre match drinks were superb and they probably helped to return another fine bowling display. 10 wickets were snaffled for the second week running, but the momentum of the contest lurched violently from team to team.

Tendring got off to a magnificent start and looked totally trouble free as they raced to 50 without loss in 8 overs. However, the momentum shifted totally when Pits introduced himself to the attack. He took pace off the ball and the batsmen looked slightly uncomfortable. The breakthrough came and Rosaneri seized control. Pits ended up with 2 wickets, but he could easily have returned 4. Mat bowled a straight 10 overs at the other end and also returned a well deserved brace.

Nick came into the attack and bagged himself another 3 fer with some more superb leg spin bowling. The momentum had shifted so dramatically that senior players were talking about giving them a few runs to make a game of it. In the end though, Tendring had a secret weapon batting at 10 who chipped in with a competitive 30 to help the home team to a defendable 151.

Tea was a banter fuelled affair and spirits were high for a successful chase.

The Rosaneri openers got off to an assured looking start and Mr Bell played one particular delicious cover drive that had the travelling away support clapping for victory. Big Mike departed and the rot set in for a big collapse that left the pinks reeling at 48 for 7.

Jim and Nick set about restoring pride first of all, but once 40 odd had been accumulated in quickish time thoughts turned to winning the game again. However, disaster struck when Jim was caught with a super diving catch at point.

The end then came quickly when Nick who had batted brilliantly for 28 was also caught shortly after Jim’s departure.

A first defeat of the season is now on the board, but it was not a total disaster.

Just think if every player had just of got 4 more runs each then we would have won !
