Pre match thoughts

We are now within touching distance of the first game of 2009 and the team has been announced.

The team looks very strong and we are particularly bowler heavy. That does present a slight problem as the Captain will have to juggle the over allocation around to ensure that everyone gets a fair go. It may well mean that some recognised bowlers will bowl less than usual but bat higher up the order.

Although the game is probably going to be timed in nature we will probably end up bowling around 40 overs. With 7 recognised bowlers anyone bowling a full allocation of 8 will almost certainly find themselves batting at 10 or 11.

Depending on the exact situation in the game it may well mean that a bowler not firing will be given the hook quickly.

As always we will balance a desire to compete with our underlying belief in giving as many as possible a good game. Winning is important, but everyone enjoying their day out is of equal importance.

The team may have a lot of bowlers, but we are also lucky to have a good few of those bowlers who can bat a bit as well.

The batting in the upper order almost picks itself, although of course this could change at the last minute. But the early thoughts are that GBell and Big Mike will open, with Shell at 3 and Tony at 4.

A close game is virtually assured as the teams were very closely matched in last years contest.

Good Morning Sports Fans will be back on Sunday morning.
