It was a brilliant net session on Wednesday night with 11 squad members turning up and getting stuck in.
But what did those who attended actually get out of the night ?
For me, I was brought down to earth with a bump. My batting fell apart as I was assaulted by the Spin King Shewring and I was fretting for the whole of the next day about where I had gone wrong !
But that is exactly what net practice is all about.
My mind took me back to the basics of what I was doing well only the week before. I analysed the problems and have now hopefully learnt from my mistakes and loss of focus. Batting is all about focus and application, and Wednesday night’s wake up call will serve me well when I step back out into the middle.
The lessons are perhaps not so obvious for the bowlers but they are most certainly there. Were you bowling the right length and indeed the right line ? Did you bowl fast enough, or did you bowl too fast ? Are you focussed on wicket taking or accuracy and keeping the runs down ?
In cricket you are always learning and nobody in our squad has mastered it yet.
So have a think about your performance and really take time to think about what you can learn from both the positives and negatives. The thinking process will benefit your long term development and certainly make you a better player.
