Come on guys, the season is nearly upon us

The final countdown to the season is well underway and we are virtually within touching distance of that first game of 2009 on Nazeing Common.

But I am concerned about our dedication to improving as a team and as individuals.

Turn out at nets apart from one week has been disappointing to say the least. You can only expect to improve by practicing, and the more you improve the more you will enjoy it. Winning more feels good, scoring more runs feels good, and taking more wickets feels good.

Ok, not everyone can get to nets every week for a multitude of reasons, but are some of our players sitting on the sofa when they know they should be at nets ?

You may think, “Why should I bother ?”

Well, not only will it benefit you as an individual, but it also benefits your team mates by giving them different bowling or a different batsmen to pick their wits against.

Nets are not compulsory and never have been, but all this talk of having too many committed players for selection purposes seems a long way off the mark when we regularly only get 5 or 6 at nets.

Some contracted players have not turned up at all or have only been to one session. Is this the attitude of winners ? Come on guys, let’s knuckle down and get this season off to a flyer.
