With all the recent fixture news we have fallen a little behind in the player analysis of 2008.
Today we take a look at Nick Shewring.
Nick enjoyed a brilliant 2008 with the ball, but a decidedly average 2008 with the bat.
On the bowling front Nick returned a mightily impressive 20 wickets from only 83 overs. His economy rate was also a very respectable 4 runs per over which was a big improvement on the previous season. An average of 16.6 runs per wicket is also the sign of a very good bowler.
Nick has come a long way in just over 2 years of cricket after starting from scratch. His dedication to the art of leg spin is intense and he certainly deserved his success in 2008 by the sheer amount of effort he has put in at both winter and summer nets.
A season best of 3 for 5 was excellent, but the luck that is sometimes needed to secure a five fer has definitely escaped him. He got to 2 and 3 wickets relatively quickly on numerous occasions, but just didn’t get the breaks he needed to secure his first five wicket haul.
Slightly less impressive was Nick’s batting in 2008. His best score was 21, but he only accumulated 86 runs in 11 innings. This leaves lots of improvement for 2009, and with a new bat a big score is surely just round the corner.
Overall then, the club would settle for more of the same in 2009. But the ultimate aim for Nick should be to maintain his high bowling standards and look to improve the batting to a position where Rosaneri fans think of him as a run contributor rather than a genuine tail ender.
