Let Hayden inspire you

Matty Hayden has finally hung up his whites at the age of 37 for The Australian national team.

He retires as a true legend of the game and actually lays his bat down with a test match average of over 50. This is simply amazing and he has joined an elite band of past international greats.

But what has this got to do with Rosaneri ?

Well for me, it is all about his age. Up until last week this man was still playing for the best cricketing nation on the planet. We have a lot of players of a similar age, who think of themselves as past their best in terms of fitness, but Hayden should serve as a wake up call for us all that age is no barrier to performance.

I have been very guilty myself of thinking that I am too old to play football, and that fitness is not as important in cricket so I will be alright. Ok, football is totally gone for me now as I have fallen out of love with the game, but I am going to make a real effort to get my head down and work hard for a rewarding cricket season.

Come on, Hayden has just packed it in at the very highest level so surely we can still make a big impact at our level for a good few years yet.

Yes, we may have an injury or two, but let’s toughen up mentally and start being positive about our physical well being and use Hayden as our inspiration.
