On the batting front the stats suggest that Steve enjoyed a brilliant season by averaging over 20. However, on closer inspection Steve’s season with the bat was far too inconsistent. He smashed a magnificent 61 not out against Edmonton, but also had a few too many non-descript innings for a man of his ability.
Steve’s best innings of the season though may well have come against Mayfield as he guided Rosaneri to a famous one wicket victory. There was still a load of work to do when he strode out to the middle, but he returned a club hero.
Steve’s bowling on the other hand was very consistent and he enjoyed a very good season with the ball. The economy rate was top drawer and many a Captain through the season turned to Steve to add control to the attack. The wicket tally could have been a little better, but that does give Steve a ready made target in 2009 to return a few more scalps.
Overall then a good season, but Steve will know in his heart that he is capable of batting to a high standard on a regular basis. If his batting gets the consistency it needs he could become a regular match winner for the Pinks in 2009.
