In truth Tony had a wretched season with the bat, but it certainly wasn’t for the lack of trying. A combination of bad luck, and brilliant opposition bowling was the story of Tony’s season as he struggled to find any kind of rhythm.

Often he would get himself in, but then disaster would strike before he had chance to kick on and cash in with some runs. Towards the end of the season Tony really got his head down and made a massive effort at nets to practice his way into form. This effort will ultimately pay off, and if he gets a similar focus for winter nets he could well hit the floor running in 2009.

One area of Tony’s game that did stand up in 2008 was in the discipline of fielding. Tony always stays switched on throughout a session in the field and saved numerous runs with high energy and enthusiasm. He took his fair share of catches, some of which were spectacular, to end up towards the top of the Golden Fielder competition.

It must also be noted that Tony from having no idea about cricket whatsoever has now developed into a brilliant scorer within two seasons. He never has to be asked to pick up the pencil and his willingness and team spirit is a Captain’s dream.

Tony’s cricket education continues all the time and with better luck and perhaps position in the order that he is comfortable with he will surely return a much better set of figures in 2009.
