The club has decided to decline their invitation to The Enfield Cricket Club six a side competition as it was felt that it could have a detrimental impact on our long term aims for the season.
This type of cricket may well be good fun, but it encourages batting that has no place in longer formats of cricket even including Twenty/20. But the main reason for pulling out was protection of the bowlers. Line and length would all have to change dramatically and the standard of batsmen would be considerable better than we would normally expect to be bowling to. Bearing in mind that the Enfield captain, Mike Gatting, has faced the likes of Malcom Marshall, Wasim Akram, and Shane Warne, it was concluded that the likes of Jim, Marcus and Nick may never recover from the trauma.
This may well be an event for later seasons, but at present it is a step too far. We will still have a great day out at Lincoln Road, when we play Enfield on the 20th of May.
