We didn’t enjoy the best of luck in terms of games won this season, but we certainly did enjoy some luck with the weather.
Ok, we had many a game where we were frantically looking at forecasts right up until we took to the pitch, but we were amazingly lucky not lose more matches to the dreaded rain.
Even while playing we didn’t suffer many showers to send us scampering for shelter. We took tea just as a passing shower hit North Weald, and we had to suspend play in Harlow due to a massive downpour. But overall we got far more cricket than the usual English summer would allow.
2007 was a shocker in terms of weather and we were also the victims of a couple of trigger happy groundsmen who cancelled games way too early.
So what does 2009 hold ? That is the million dollar question and it adds another layer of expectation to the build up for next season. I for one would settle for a season of weather similar to 2008 right now, but you never know we may get a drought and enjoy guaranteed cricket every weekend all summer long.
Those days when you are stuck in doors looking outside at rain running down the window on a summer weekend make you appreciate the morning you wake up to glorious sunshine and a days cricket. Let’s hope we get more of the latter in 2009.
