Player notebooks

Mi.Freeman – His first 3 overs of a 4 over spell were almost perfect, but the final over went for plenty as the old muscles started to seize up. Fielded with his usual commitment and took a nice catch. Never looked settled with the bat on this occasion, but the long hard session in the field had probably taken its toll.

B.Underwood – Bowled on the stumps and used the uneven bounce to his advantage. Held a nice caught and bowled and returned super figures. Bens batting looked very assured in intimidating surroundings and he went about his business to get 14 on the board before a tight run out call ended a courageous knock.

Tona – Fielded brilliantly and kept his concentration throughout a long and tough session in the field. The batting never got going as he was hastily given out lbw by a youthful umpire.

Hooper – Had the game you would expect from a top all rounder. Bowled with pace and accuracy to pick up a well deserved 3 fer. Then looked comfortable with the bat before playing a poor shot to end what could have been a big innings.

M.Cox – Stopped everything that came his way in the field, but looked very uneasy when batting probably due to light sledging.

Alfieri – Took a great catch to get the pink wicket haul going and fielded with a buzzing energy throughout the Sawbridgeworth innings. Can’t get a score with the bat for love nor money, but it is not from the want of trying.

McHugh – Kept wicket well on a very tricky pitch for keepers. Made a run out of a top batsman after Jims throw was not as good as it could have been. Batted with maturity and just as he looked set to kick on a make a score he played the wrong shot against a good spinner.

Downing – Bowled a tidy spell and didn’t get the little bit of luck he needed to secure a few wickets. Batted with full confidence and played two beautiful drives in a resistant innings before a rash shot concluded the Rosaneri batting.

N.Shewring – Rushed back against doctors orders to bowl well after a recent hip operation. Didn’t get any wickets to add to his large haul for the season, but will be pleased to get the old rhythm back. Only lasted two balls against the good spinner when batting.

Rose – Bowled poorly and work is needed over the winter to rebuild some consistency. Batted in his usual dashing fashion before and looked good before making the long walk back to the hutch.

K.Mully – Came in to help the boys out and fielded well. Bowled nicely for a couple of overs and enjoyed the beer while waiting to bat. But didn’t get a chance as the wicket went down at the other end before he had chance to face a ball.
