Age is no barrier

I have just put down the Sunday papers to ponder over an article in the Sports section that has further invigorated me for the coming season.

The article in question was about how age is no longer a barrier to “Older sportsman” in the world of football. Some achievements of the older player are incredible, with characters like Sheringham and Costacurta still performing in the most fiercely competitive leagues in the world at 40+. In fact, Costacurta is the oldest out field player ever to play in The Champions League having turned 40.

My personal inspiration comes from the fact that these achievements have been made in the world of football which is traditionally miles more punishing on the body than the world of cricket. With these 40+ heroes still plying their trade at the highest level in the world of football, it gives us all hope of playing cricket for many more years to come.

With fingers crossed that none of us suffer serious injuries, we are all standing at the crossroads of our sporting future. We can move forward this season to raise our collective efforts and put Rosaneri Cricket Club firmly on the sporting map for now and many years to come.
