The selection question

As we enter the final month of the season, I think it is important that we work as hard as we can to get a few results, but also that we relish every last second of this wonderful game that is cricket.

This week sees an amazing situation when all 11 contracted players are available to take up the challenge against Harlow. Although this is great for the selectors as it takes off the pressure of having to find players, my heart goes out to the loyal ad hoc army.

During the winter we do need to sit down at the AGM and have a full a frank discussion about the selection procedure. The current system has worked brilliantly, but as the strength of our squad grows it may have to adapt.

The original contract scenario emerged as an obvious solution to reward the 11 guys who showed enough interest to found the club. The contracts system has now been in place for 2 years and up until this week the whole process has worked like clockwork.

For the remaining games of this season the selection process will continue as usual, and it may well continue in the same fashion for next year. But if you have any strong opinions or new ideas then please make sure that you attend the AGM.

The AGM will be held during the close season and everyone connected with the club is welcome to attend.
