This could be special

After the huge disappointment of losing today’s original fixture on Friday the club have bounced back and managed to get the show back on the road.

There is a real air of excitement on the forum with the build up to today’s encounter with Ham & Petersham CC. This game has got all the hallmarks of a classic cricketing day out, and we must make the most of our adventure into the unknown.

The game is due to start at 1.30pm and the exact format will be decided by the Captain’s at the toss. Tea will be provided in the Pub that overlooks The Common. Our opponents seem to be a club run in the same spirit to ourselves and they describe their team for today’s clash as medium/weak.

The pub we are to take tea in is known as The Legless Frog and is run by one of London’s leading French chefs in the shape of Thierry Bouteloup. Please take time to have a look at the following extract from the Pub website;

The owner Thierry Bouteloup, has brought together a dynamic young team, that have vast experience in pubs and restaurants, ensuring first class service. Decorated in a mixture of old French and traditional British pub styles, the legless frog has an eclectic mix of vintage and modern pieces thrown in to create a contempory and stylish ambiance.

The pub boasts a front cricket bar, with a quintessential English view over ham common, complete with duck pond and at week ends the local ham and petersham cricket team bowling to victory. A rear golf bar and 3 other large spacious areas for drinking (try the fantastic local Twickenham ale) or our delicious home made bar food, old favourites with a twist, Toulouse sausage and mash, steak and chips with béarnaise or fresh sardine bruchetta.

If you prefer something more formal try the elegant conservatory restaurant that overlooks the stunning garden complete with ancient willow trees and carp pond.

The menu offering set lunch and dinner menus, serving classics such as “Seared slices of tuna with vanilla cream and smoked garlic puree and roasted saddle of rabbit with pan fried foie gras, sweetcorn flan and marjoram jus, we also do full Sunday lunches with all the trimmings and have an award winning wine list, specialising in the south west of France, including organic and bio dynamic wines from small private vineyards.

Add to the mix that Shane Warne played on the exact same pitch in July 2007 in a charity match.

Clearly this is NOT a game to miss.

Traffic could be the big issue getting there so we need to meet as early as we can.

Therefore I am suggesting meeting at The Bullsmoor Lane McDonalds’ for 11.40am. We MUST hit the road by 11.45am. (Get there early if you want a meal) If anyone is traveling direct they must let a club official know.

The sat nav reference is TW10 5LA.
