Brilliant fielding and bowling all round

Stephen Underwood – Answered the club’s call for players and put in a great all round display. Bowled his usual line and length and made the all important initial breakthrough. Took to opening the batting well and got the innings off to a solid start.

Ben Underwood – Overcame a tricky start to his innings to get things moving for the pinks in their run chase, and hit the ball so powerfully he broke the club bat !

Akyuz – Came in to the team to earn his cap at the last moment after an 18 year break from the game. Fielded like he had never been away, but didn’t get any luck while batting as he was given out lbw for 1.

Alfieri – Came out to bat full of bristle and aggression. Got his runs quickly, but his knock came to an end too quickly on his favourite pitch.

Leigh – Kept wicket in an unrivalled classy fashion. Really looked the part, added a sense of calm with his discreet style and took a brilliant catch off a snick to put Mat back in the wickets. Got himself in while batting but sent a half chance catch the way of a 1st XI fielder who made no mistake.

Levett – Produced magnificent fielding to save numerous runs, but unfortunately injured his legs. Had to have a runner while batting and didn’t look comfortable in dreadful batting conditions.

Steve Shewring – Bowled a lovely opening spell and deservedly picked up a brace of wickets. Came out with the right attitude with the batting and tried to win the match in as few hits as possible, but unfortunately holed out after two big 6’s.

Gareth Cox – Will know that he bowled nowhere near what he is capable of bowling, but still produced 3 wickets. Adapted to terrible batting conditions and smashed an excellent 39. Looked in great order and could easily have gone on to record a real big score.

Mike Freeman – Well what can we say ! Fielded brilliantly and took not one, but two stunning diving catches. Had his first competitive bowl in 15 years and although rusty there was heaps of promise. Then picked up the bat and confidently went about accumulating a faultless and unbeaten 25.

Downing – Took a couple of overs to get going but bowled much better than the bare figures suggest. Subdued the daddy batsman and had a great contest with the young lad who eventually got to his maiden 50. Unlucky not to get a wicket, but failed with the bat in chaotic conditions.

Mat Freeman – This match saw Gunther at his best. Got smashed for 6 with his first ball, but then came back with pure controlled aggression to end up with career best figures of 4 for 37. The way he polished off the tail was particularly impressive. Mat’s batting is best ignored this week as it was in ridiculous conditions and he couldn’t play his natural game.
