"Good luck" from a friend of the club

Good morning sports fans comes live this morning from Northern Scotland as Rugby World Cup winning legend Matt Dawson sends Rosaneri Cricket Club a message of good luck.

As you can see from the photograph the former regular England international met up with our very own Andy Underwood while on location filming a new BBC cooking show.

Matt wished us luck for today’s clash against Hoddesdon, but more importantly gave us words of encouragement for the eagerly anticipated rematch against The Cotswolds XI.

“Australia had beaten us convincingly in previous matches before the World Cup, but we pulled together and got it right on the day when it mattered,” said Dawson.

He went on to add, “Get your heads down and work hard, and above all believe in your ability to get the job done.”

Today’s match sees us travel to Lowfields in Hoddesdon. The match will start at 1.30pm. Therefore players are advised to arrive no later than 1pm.

The full address of the ground is Park View, Hoddesdon, EN11 8PX.

The team is named as follows:

Downing (Capt)
Ma. Freeman (vc)
Mi. Freeman
Alfieri
Leigh
Levett
S. Underwood
B. Underwood
S. Shewring
G. Cox
K. Akyuz

The format will be decided on the day by the Captains.

Hoddesdon could well turn out to be very tough opponents as our only direct line of form involves Enfield’s Sunday XI who we drew with at Lincoln Road. The Enfield boys ended up on the wrong end of a proper thrashing. Enfield posted 220 in 45 overs, before Hoddesdon knocked the runs off in 22 overs for the loss of no wickets !

However, as we know, one or two players can make a massive difference and it may be that Hoddesdon field a weaker team this week.

The pitch has a lightening fast outfield and it could easily turn out to be a run festival.
