Player notebooks

Tyrrell – Got triggered by a quick on the draw umpire and never got a chance to get going with the bat. Kept wicket well, but did put down a couple of half chances.

Jones – Looked stylish as usual and looked set against a useful opening attack until he put one straight to a fielder.

Leigh – Played out a tricky start against top bowlers and just when the crowd thought he would kick on he got out.

Alfieri – Yet another player who got himself in only to get himself out before kicking on for a big score. Fielded brilliantly and took a nice catch.

Mi. Freeman – A top debut from the big man who batted like he had never been away from the game. Played some nice shots before being another victim of the fast shooting umpire. Took two great catches with smooth precision.

Downing – Looked very smart with the bat and crashed a monstrous 6 straight down the ground, but was undone by a leg spinner and a tight lbw. Bowled well and got the ball to move in the air to pick up two wickets.

Levett – Back down to earth with a bump after Friday’s heroics with the bat, but did put in sound work in the field.

G. Cox – Came out to bat with 20 overs left, but batted as though it was the last over of a Twenty/20 with 16 required. Smashed and crashed quick runs before chasseing down the wicket to have his stumps clipped. But then picked up the ball and took an amazing 5 for 15 in 5 overs. Simply outstanding and the best bowling figures that the club has ever seen.

Ma. Freeman – Batted with his usual grit and style and picked off the one bad ball every over to move quietly to unbeaten 25. Bowled the most economical bowling ever seen from 5 overs to record 4 maidens. But it is a mystery why he does not get any wickets ?

Sindrey – Asked the skipper for a chance to bat at 10 and he certainly took the opportunity by smashing a career best 30. The packed Lincoln Road crowd loved every minute of it, and he returned to the pavilion as a cult hero.

N. Shewring – Added vital runs at the death of the Rosaneri innings, captained well and very fairly, and then got revolutions on the ball to pick up a nice career best 3 for 5. It must be noted that Nick was very unlucky not to pick up 3 for 1, as 4 of the runs were misfields !
