Lessons from Freddie

All cricket fans at the moment are focused on events unfolding in the Caribbean as the World Cup really hots up. But one single event more than any other has filled the majority of column inches devoted to cricket.

The event in question, unless you have been on another planet, concerns the England vice captain and a pedalo. Players past and present have expressed their opinions on the high jinx that took place with the majority in agreement that Freddie’s behaviour was unacceptable.

Although this all seems a long way away from Rosaneri Cricket Club both in terms of geography and in terms of cricketing ability, it does raise an important issue. That is that all good teams have to have an effective code of conduct.

Rosaneri are currently compiling a code of conduct as per the minutes of the pre season meeting. The full code of conduct will be posted on the website in the coming weeks, and all players are expected to abide by it.

Poor discipline and being close to the coast are obviously a recipe for disaster, and senior club officials are very concerned in case we find our vice captain for the Clacton game, John Shuttlewood, at 4 o’clock in the morning on a pedalo in the middle of the North Sea.
