Tail wags to push Rosaneri to victory

On the face of the facts this looked like a completely one sided affair, but for those that played or watched they will tell you that it was nearly a very different story.

Nick won the toss and elected to bat on the usual tarmac surface at Lincoln Road. This decision was even more important with the extremely hot weather conditions for fielding.

The Queens Head attack quickly got stuck in and the pinks were rocking on the ropes at 59 for 6. Gareth and Jim both scored quickly to add vital runs, but both lost their wickets to leave Rosaneri at 84 for 8.

At this point some judges were settling for 100 to give us a chance of making a game of it. But it was at this point that an unlikely hero stepped forward in the shape of Paul Sindrey.

Paul started with nudges and delicate glances before opening up to smash five glorious 4’s. He was supported by the reliable Mat Freeman and the scoreboard began to head dramatically upwards.

However, Paul’s innings did not have a fairy tale ending as he was out in embarrassing circumstances when he jumped out of the way of a quick one that clipped his leg stump.

Never the less, this truly was a champions innings as he top scored batting at 10.

At tea, the game was in the balance and the Pinks retook the field full of fighting spirit. What followed next though can only be described as the best bowling and fielding that the club has ever witnessed from a total team effort.

Gareth and Mat Freeman delivered a devastating opening spell in a perfect combination that ripped the heart out of The Queens Head. Mat kept it ultra tight and Gareth served up wicket after wicket to finish with a personal best 5 for 15.

Jim and Nick then joined the attack to wrap up the tail with 5 wickets in 5 overs between them. The catching was amazing with Paul Sindrey taking a one handed diving effort, Tony taking an assured pouch, and big Mike Freeman making two difficult catches look easy on debut.

In the end this was a thrashing, but if the tail had not wagged it could have easily have been a reversal.

The tail certainly had a wag in it
