Player notebooks

Cully – Batted with his usual quality and professionalism and carried the early fight while partners were coming and going. Fielded brilliantly and saved numerous runs, but probably had a sleepless night thinking about the crazy 4 overthrows.

Tyrrell – Didn’t shine with the bat and had an unusually lacklustre performance behind the stumps until taking one of his lightening trademark stumpings.

M.Cox – Batted with determination and just as he got in, he got out. Fielded to his usual high standards and enjoyed every minute of the battle.

Downing – Played as a batsmen and looked set apart from a tricky opening over from Steve Berryman. However, he then snicked a harmless ball down the leg side to the grateful hands of the wicket keeper.

A.Underwood – Had the tough job of Captaining a side engrossed in battle and handled it very well. Another though who looked set and just didn’t go on to make a score while batting.

G.Cox – Batted in the only way he knows, but it was all over too quickly. Bowled well and kept the runs down, but didn’t really get near a wicket. Took a great catch which sparked mad celebrations when dismissing their top batsman.

Freeman – A brilliant all round display that started with a match saving 33 while batting, and then Gunther went on to bowl like a demon to record an economy rate close to 2 per over. A clear candidate for man of the match.

Rose – Batted well until he tried to get clever and then got himself out. Bowled well for 2 overs, but had a shocking 3rd that was given the tap.

S.Underwood – Came in to bat at a crucial stage and certainly came up with the goods. Then bowled beautifully for 7 overs and looked like he had won the match for the pinks by only conceding 12 runs, but the 8th over made outstanding figures merely look very good.

N.Shewring – Another tail ender who produced the goods with a fluent 17. Put in a top 6 over spell with the ball and got his usual brace of wickets.

Sindrey – Got his first runs of the season and will be very pleased with his work with the bat. Bowled aggressively and was clearly delighted when a bouncer aimed at Steve Berryman knocked him off balance onto his stumps. As a sign of respect from his Captain he was handed the ball for the death over, and after 3 balls he was on schedule to be an all time club hero. A top all round effort was capped with a catch.
