Player notebooks

Here are the player notebooks from the Botany Bay game:

Tyrrell – Kept wicket to his usual high standard, but did run into trouble with the umpire for taking the ball in front of the stumps on a couple of occasions. Changed his style of batting to suit the occasion and set a really positive tone for the entire innings. Charged the bowlers when it was appropriate and successfully mixed defence with attack.

Alfieri – Put his heart and soul into fielding and saved numerous runs. Didn’t get going with the bat against a good club bowling attack.

Coxy – Put in the best fielding display that the club has ever seen. Charged around the outfield saving runs and threw the ball in with accuracy and speed. Then took a catch when a chance eventually came his way. Didn’t take advantage though of the super batting track.

B. Underwood – Must be slightly frustrated that he built a platform for a big score and then threw it away. His batting is rapidly improving and a big score must be only around the corner.

A. Underwood – Captained well with limited bowling options in the face of a very strong opposition batting line up. Had a slow start with the bat, and just as it looked as if he was going to go on and register a big one he bottled it against a fast full toss and was bowled. An ounce of bravery and playing the proper shot in line would have meant he would probably still be there yet not out.

Downing – Put last weeks duck firmly behind him with a splendid 63. Classic cover drives with slog sweeps and a solid defence proved to be the winning formula as he went on to record his best ever total for the club.

Jones – Chose this match to properly re-launch his bowling career and returned some decent figures on a pitch that always made the batsmen favourite. However, he will know in his heart that there is still work to be done to bring back his bowling glory days from schools cricket. Lost his marbles when batting by crazily running himself out.

S. Underwood – Bowled like an international one day bowler and produced brilliant economical figures under unfavourable conditions. Also looked the part with the bat, but was caught by the best catch ever seen at Lincoln Road.

Sparrey – Had a great game. Bowled very well to apply the brakes at a crucial point in the match and then came out to bat looking to win it. Never gave up and ultimately ran out of partners.

S.Shewring – Bowled a lovely opening spell that was miserly and accurate. In hindsight was probably taken off two overs too soon. Didn’t have much time left when batting and the pressure forced a poor shot to signal the end.

Sindrey – Bowled too many no balls and was given the tap at the end of his first 5 over spell, but came back well as a death bowler to limit the damage as the big hitters were cutting loose. Unfortunately added a golden duck to his batting collection.
