Player notebooks

When the result is defeat, the what ifs always linger in the immediate post match self questioning. And that is a good thing, as it drives you on as a person and a team to achieve better things.

Here are the individual player notebooks:

Tyrrell – Batted again in Boycott fashion and never really looked like getting out until he was run out. Didn’t get a sniff of a dismissal behind the stumps against top batsmen.

M.Cox – Looked flustered after a troubled journey to the ground and just didn’t look like the Coxy from the previous weeks. Did field well though and didn’t give up until the winning runs were struck.

B.Underwood – Batted exceptionally well, and even when riding an early storm from experienced opening bowlers carried a positive fight. Kept the ball off his stumps with strokes rather than flat bat prods and on a dry pitch would have notched 20 or 30.

Leigh – Got clean bowled by a purler from a top bowler. Captained superbly by balancing fairness with a desire to achieve a positive result. A big score is just around the corner as form is temporary and class is permanent.

Jones – What can we say about the man that has now become a legend. Turned up at short notice for his second game to save the team from disaster and record back to back fifties. Didn’t give the bowlers a single chance and scored runs as if conditions were easy. A 007 script couldn’t have been written to sum this performance up as he even left early to make it on time for a restaurant reservation to celebrate his wives birthday.

Downing – In simple terms had a shocker. Uncharacteristically out for a duck, and bowled in a very nervous fashion towards the business end of the game.

G.Cox – Batted like a whirlwind until he blew himself out by mistiming pull. Then bowled a great over followed by a poor over on an alternating basis.

N.Shewring – Bowled a tidy little spell and picked up one of only two wickets to fall. Not a game to remember with the bat though as he rejoined the Primary Club.

Freeman – A magnificent display with the bat to smash a quick and controlled 32. Kept his head and showed immense bottle as not only did he have to stay there with Adam, he also had to get quick runs on the board to avoid the club having to make an embarrassing declaration. Bowled at the death to good effect, but didn’t get an ounce of luck.

Rose – Used as an opening bowler and returned very good figures without ever really getting near to the wicket he deserved against solid batsmen. For the stats men out there, Marcus was actually called for a very rare back foot no ball.

Sindrey – Bowled like a machine to record outstanding economical figures and deserved more than a solitary wicket. However, Paul didn’t take a fancy to the pitch and his mental approach couldn’t have been more negative. With a touch more positivity he could easily have returned match winning figures. Paul must be praying every night for a bought of drought like conditions.
