More good work, but the result slips away

Another super team display, but here is the individual player notebooks:

Tyrrell – Kept wicket in his usual attacking fashion and picked up 2 catches to help with his quest of retaining the Golden Fielder. Batted in a calm and steady fashion and again worked well in combination with Coxy.

M.Cox – Another top effort with the bat and is looking a completely different player to last season. Confidence is clearly high and his winter net sessions have obviously paid off.

Leigh – Back to his best form and worked the ball round well in a patient innings of 28. Also looked particularly sharp in the field.

Alfieri – Wasn’t his day with the bat after being nipped out by a good ball early on in his innings. Seemed to enjoy his tea though and it must also be put on record how well he scored.

A.Underwood – Had become Rosaneri’s forgotten bowler, but returned from the wilderness to remove both opening batsmen in a brilliant 5 over spell. Looked in the groove with the bat until lobbing up a catch and will be disappointed with only 13. Also took another catch to keep in contention for the Golden Fielder.

Shuttlewood - Got used by the tinkerman as a surprise bowling option early in the match and bowled a sensational opening ball. However, that was as good as it got with the ball as he struggled to find any sort of rhythm. Remains badly in need of some confidence with the bat, but as Coxy and Tony have shown it will come good in time.

Downing – Bowled under the tinkermans orders in two 3 over blasts, and didn’t let his skipper down by bowling tight and taking the prize wicket of the big hitting dangerman. Batted in his usual assured fashion but just ran out of partners as the winning line approached.

N.Shewring – Bowled well again as now has become expected and exploded onto the batting scene with a smash happy 13. The only ball that he didn’t score off was the one that got him out.

Rose – Picked up 2 more wickets in a controlled bowling spell that on a normal day would have put him in position to get man of the match votes. But his real contribution was with his tinkerman style of captaincy. Never let the batsmen settle and kept his own team buzzing by being ultra fair. A great debut as skipper.

S.Shewring – Bowled very well without getting the wicket that his efforts deserved. Batted with the same control and spirit of the previous week and has categorically proved that he deserves to move up the order on merit from the recent weeks of batting at 10 and 11. Just as it looked like he would win the match again he was given out lbw.

Sindrey – Bowled his heart out in two spells and ended up bowling an energy sapping 12 overs. Didn’t get any reward as the chances he created went to vacant fielding positions. Could easily bowl worse than this and end up with a five fer. Batted with maturity and application, but lost his quest for victory to a high looking lbw.
