A tight contest, but only one winner

In an old fashioned run scramble on a difficult pitch there is always likely to be a few candidates for the man of the match award. The clash with Mayfield on a minefield of a surface certainly threw up a few contenders.

In the end, 4 players received votes and it was the voters comments made interesting reading. The 4 heroes in question were GBell, Nick Shewring, Stephen Underwood, and Steve Shewring.

Once the votes had been counted it was Steve Shewring that came out on top to claim the man of the match award.

Steve bowled a great opening spell to claim the wicket of a key opening batsman, and then composed himself to come in at 11 under intense pressure to make a series of big shots to see Rosaneri home. Well done sir, a top all round display.

But spare a thought for the other candidates who in any other match would have been clear winners. Gbell kept wicket to an amazing standard and bravely took on the quick bowler to blunt the attack. Nick returned career best figures with the ball and probably bowled his best ever spell for the club. While Stephen Underwood bowled his usual accurate line and length, took wickets and remained unbeaten with the bat at the business end of the match.

Clearly this was a great team effort and it bodes well for the rest of the season with so many players now in top form.
