The Mayfield match will be talked about for years to come for many reasons, but was the tea worth talking about ?
Well, the scores have been added and averaged and the tea came out as a solid 5.69. The standard this year has been very good and Mayfield slot in just off the pace in 5th place.
Our regular food critic Tony Alfieri writes:
The Divine Tea
On first impressions (on entering the club house) I had in all honesty already pre- awarded the tea a dismal 2, it looked like a small spread and god knows how long it had been sitting there.
However, on closer inspection the sandwiches were surprisingly very good, rich in filling with a decent sweet selection. The tea itself was strong and good comments were made. Even though the spread looked very small it seemed to go on forever, 22 very satisfied men, left the tea table with sandwiches left over. How was this possible??
Later in the day, I uncovered the fact that the opposition team included the local Vicar, and that the Vicar’s wife had made the tea, it turned out God probably did know how long the tea had been sitting there. No way I was going to award the divine tea a 2.
A humble 6/10
