Bowled over......by Paul Sindrey

Well, three games in and not only are we unbeaten, we’ve batted and bowled well as a team. It’s a very rich tapestry that the Rosaneri lads have woven and there are elements of all styles mixed up to produce a colourful bowling attack. Here’s how things are shaping up so far.

Sheridan Leigh

I watched in amazement as Shel took his first wicket of the season with his first ball at Enfield. Not only that, but he bowled with such a good line and length, I wondered if he had been using a doppelganger in the nets. Although only four overs were bowled, Shel sits on top of the pile with figures of :-

4 Overs, 2 Maidens, 2 Wickets for 3 Runs

There’s one word for that – Superb

Mark Cox

Mark has been entrusted with the ball on two occasions now and has obtained decent figures in the three overs bowled, included the wicket maiden (his only over!) at Enfield.

3 Overs, 1 Maiden, 1 Wicket for 10 Runs

Gareth Cox

Gareth is blessed with a natural inswinging action which has yielded a wicket in both his spells. I think given the right pitch and conditions, his deliveries could move more than a bridegroom’s hips on honeymoon. So far, it’s steady as she goes but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few hat tricks this season.

12 Overs, 2 Maidens, 2 Wickets for 41 Runs

Steve Shewring

Thus far, Steve has bowled with exceptional consistency, being as thrifty with his runs as Robsie was this Rosaneri FC’s funds. His economy stands at 1.79 in two matches and although only one wicket has been taken, you know you can give him the ball and he will frustrate and limit the batsmen.

12 Overs, 2 Maidens, 1 Wicket for 25 Runs

Nick Shewring

Nick battled himself in the opening game which saw the opposition consider a scarecrow as an umpire, given the amount of wide balls. However, when he turns the ball, it’s measured in feet and not inches. The Botany Bay game saw the economy reined in and his strike rate speaks for itself at an impressive 14.25 runs per wicket. Given a little more consistency, this could easily fall below 10.

15 Overs, 1 Maiden, 4 Wickets for 57 Runs

Paul Sindrey

This website only has a finite amount of bandwidth for me to harp on about myself so I won’t even start!

17 Overs, 3 Maidens, 3 Wickets for 34 Runs

Jim Downing

Jim’s performances with the ball are of no surprise to me as the sod keeps bowling me at nets! Excellent line and length and a lovely flight on the ball means Jim is the club’s leading wicket taker and has the most maidens.

18 Overs, 5 Maidens, 5 Wickets for 52 Runs

Marcus Rose

Donation of the slush machine has seen Marcus bowl in every game. Needs to tighten up on the balls down the leg side but has shown moments of effective bowling. A good line and length will always yield results. Unfortunately he has been smacked about like Sheryl Gascoine on occasion but has still managed to take two wickets.

19 Overs, 0 Maidens, 2 Wickets for 95 Runs

Matt Freeman

Using Glenn Hoddle’s logic, Matt must have been a murderer in a previous life. To bowl with venom, pace, accuracy and guile and to only return one wicket is beyond contemplation. Matt is a quality paceman who quite simply WILL end up with a massive haul in the very near future. I think as soon as the pitches get a little faster, he will get more bails than Pete Doherty.

21 Overs, 3 Maidens, 1 Wicket for 72 Runs
