Be ready to compete

This fixture last year saw Rosaneri comprehensively thrashed and we must make sure that this result is not repeated for 2008.

As always, it will be our batting that decides whether we compete or not. With this in mind, it is vital that everyone in the frame to play starts thinking about how they are going to approach their innings.

The Enfield pitch traditionally favours batsmen rather than bowlers, and it should be slightly faster than the opening game of the season as it will be covered for the run up to match day. Watching the ball and taking our time will be vital to making a score good enough to compete.

It has not been finalised yet, but it is now looking very likely that the match on Sunday will take the form of a timed game. This has the added advantage for spectators that if Rosaneri are falling well short of a run chase, Enfield still have to bowl us out to achieve victory.

The timed match has a habit of creating unlikely batting heroes, and it may well be up to the tail enders to dig deep and hold out for an heroic draw. A crowd of 100+ is expected, and a nail biting finish would send everyone into the post match barbecue very happy indeed.

So start thinking about protecting your wicket by defending at the right time and only playing at what you need to early in your innings. If we get off to a good start with the bat, it is amazing how confidence will spread to batsmen later in the innings.

Get thinking and start making runs.
