Practice makes perfect

Tonight will be the last net before the season gets underway.

The session will begin as usual at 8.45pm, but players are asked to get there as close to 8.30pm as possible in order to help get set up.

Depending on numbers we may go mad and hire the fourth lane to further increase batting time as the season rapidly approaches. This will also give the bowlers maximum opportunity to bowl as many balls as possible.

The Net Doctor will be on hand for those with the need for a last minute appointment. His wisdom has so far sent many a player on the road to improving their average, but the proof of the pudding will be on Sunday.

Batsmen in the general net area should concentrate on defending and leaving balls, as in theory we may have to face 50 plus overs on Sunday. Therefore a quick 20 or 30 is not as much use as a batsman that can occupy the crease for a long period.

Before you enter the nets think about what you want to work on and if possible set yourself a goal. Batsmen should really work hard to ensure that they are not bowled at the very least and bowlers should really try hard not to let one drift down the leg side.
