Ever since the first ball was bowled in the history of cricket there has been a realisation that statistically the most common way of being dismissed is by being caught.
In fact, between 65-75% of all dismissals throughout all types of cricket are caused by the batsman being caught. Using the statistics as a guide, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that catching is going to be a very important part of Rosaneri’s successful summer.
At our level of cricket, the catching statistic does tend to be even higher than that of the pro game. With this in mind, it is time to start getting tuned in and focusing on this important area of the game.
Last summer we had mixed fortunes in the field with a lot of catches getting away. Nobody drops catches on purpose, but we can all make sure we are doing the basics right in an attempt to cling on to as many as possible.
Mental rehearsal has been proven by sports scientists to work to great effect in situations like this, so the club management is urging everyone to start visualising taking those match winning catches.
Remember catches really do win matches.
