It has been brought to the club's attention that we need to provide some clarification regarding ad hoc selection.

This year will basically operate in exactly the same way as last. Ad hoc players should email the club at selection@rosanericricket.co.uk with details of their availability as early as possible and we will do our best to try and get each of you as many games as we can.

As for last year the aim of the selectors is to be as fair to everyone as possible and to try and get each of you a decent amount of matches. We have to be realistic and accept that there is going to be a huge demand for places this season so you are not likely to get to play every match for which you declare yourself available. There may be a temptation to email early and say that you are available for every match but this is not necessarily the best option as you obviously will not be able to play in every match. You will be far better off thinking carefully about the specific fixtures that you would really like to play and requesting those as you are more likely to get the ones you want. It may also count against a player if he has declared himself available on the off chance and then pulls out nearer the time as this makes life very hard for the selectors and may lead to other ad hocs missing an opportunity. With this in mind please only email us with genuine availability - not maybes!

We also want to reiterate that there are no hidden agendas behind selection and we will try to be as fair as possible in all cases and as such we will try to make the process as transparent as we can. If for any reason you are not selected it will be because there is someone else who has been given an opportunity - not because you are not wanted.

The team will be selected on fairness rather than ability to ensure that all get equal opportunity to play although we have to give respect to the opposition and ensure that the side we pick is well balanced.
