Time to get our heads down

Usual arrangements for nets this week, which is basically 8.45pm start at Goffs School in Cheshunt.

Although we officially start at 8.45pm and have an hour’s session we need people to arrive early in order to establish how many nets we need to pay for and also to get set up. Therefore we would appreciate it if you could arrive at 8.30pm.

If you are coming but you can’t make the 8.30pm meet, then please text myself or Nick to let us know that you are on your way. That way we can ensure that we do not waste club funds or even ruin the whole session by not hiring enough nets.

With only 5 sessions to go until you find yourself out in the middle it is vital that batsmen get enough practice to get themselves into good touch ready for that first ball of the season. Batsmen should look to practice attacking shots, but they should also be acutely aware that you only get one life on match day ! Therefore it is vital that good balls are respected and only the bad ones attacked.

The bowlers must now be striving for real consistency. Basically a Captain is going to toss the ball to the bowlers he can trust to bowl 5 or 6 decent balls per over. If you have not yet established a level of consistency you must use these sessions to sort things out as quickly as possible. How much you bowl this season will almost certainly come down to your consistency, not the fact that you can produce one unplayable ball every 20 balls.

Hopefully the Net Doctor will be holding his usual batting surgery with appointments being sorted out once numbers are known.

The season is literally upon us, so let’s really put the effort in and hit the ground running at the opening game.
