An honour to play against

The club have received a nice email this week from the old boy from Harlow with the metal shins ! (For those that did not play in this game, he basically fielded in shin pads and let the ball hit his legs rather than bend down to stop it)

He had seen that the Harlow fixture secretary had scheduled another fixture for next season, but he wanted to offer us another fixture against the Harlow Veterans XI.

This is great news in itself, and negotiations are well under way to add another fixture to our already healthy looking list. However, the real plus point for the club in the email was the fact that we were praised as being a club that adhere to the spirit of cricket and are a real pleasure to play against.

This type of statement is a real boost for the club, and it proves that we are doing things the right way. Not only should it make us feel good as individuals, but it also makes arranging repeat fixtures much easier.

Of course the match against Harlow last year ended in a famous victory for the Pinks, and of all people it was probably Kev Mully who performed the most sporting gesture on the day. The gesture in question came at the end of Kev’s innings when he shook the hand of the young lad who bowled him.

If only the Aussies and the Indians could play with the same spirit. But can you really imagine Matty Hayden shaking the hand of Harbhajan Singh after being bowled !
