Curry on up the crease.....by Rob Tona
Cricket and Curry. The summer equivalent of Christmas and Cranberries. Not for nothing do the Indians love to play cricket. They know they've got a Meat Madras waiting for them - win, lose or draw - depending on what they agreed with their bookie beforehand.
Yes, an RCC curry night has been organised for the night of the 11th of April in deepest southest Hertfordshire, on 'Cricket Eve' as its being billed what with the very next week seeing both the start of the County Championship and Rosaneri's first fixture of the season. So, my good friends, put the mince pies on the mantlepiece, turn the lights down low and come out in to the dawn of a new summer, hallelujah.
I can also reveal that one of our swashbuckling squad, as a show of unity and team spirit for the forthcoming season, will be conquering his fears on said night. Marcus 'the cowboy' Rose will be in attendance. Yes, folks, he's plucking up the courage, not just to ask for a friday night passout from the missus, but to tuck in to his first curry in a decade. All that for the Rosaneri cause. What a trooper. Although if his appearance is anything like his batting performances last season, he should be leaving us midway through the poppadums.
To match this selfless act, your scribe has also pledged to conquer one of his fears - giving money away. I do decree, by swearing on the holy Wisden, that I will give £1 to a charity of the clubs choice and £1 to future Rosaneri curry nights every time any pair of run-buddies hit their target in any match. All this in the name of cementing that great bond between sport and social banter. The challenge is there my friends - I'll see you all at the first spilling of the mango chutney.
