There was a good turn out at nets on Wednesday night as momentum gathers towards the start of the season. Ten squad members turned up and got stuck into a solid hour session.
The general standard of the bowling continues on its upwards curve with now only odd ball going straight into the side netting. Kiwi Graham was consistent throughout and it was nice to see Gareth Cox get straight into a rhythm at his first net of the season.
Two players who will be really pleased with their batting on the night will be Pits and Nick. Their styles and approaches were contrasting but both had sessions of significant progress. Pits adopted a text book straight bat approach and looked like he is now more than capable of turning the corner with his wretched run of form out in the middle. He hit some lovely straight drives, but more importantly he defended his wicket with guts and concentration.
Nick on the other hand went on the attack from ball one. This is clearly his natural game, and not only did he give the slower bowlers a whack, but he also hit a glorious cover drive off a good length delivery from Kiwi Graham. His defensive strokes do need work, but with a bit of luck this summer he could easily have 20 or 30 on the board before he actually needs to rely on his defensive reserves.
Ashmole School was a great success, but next week we are moving to yet another location. This time we are scheduled for a session at Goffs School in Cheshunt. More details will be published online early next week.
