Minutes

Enfield Rosaneri Cricket Club AGM (Monday the 7th of January 2008)

Apologies: John Shuttlewood, Mark Cox

Present: Jim Downing, Nick Shewring, Steve Shewring, Graham Tyrrell, Mat Freeman, Paul Sindrey, Marcus Rose. (7)

Contracted player status

It was agreed that the system introduced last season worked well with plenty of opportunities for all who wanted to play. The contract system will therefore remain with the same 11 players alongside a pool of ad hoc and casual players. Last season worked well with regards to selection and the system presented enough opportunities for everyone including ad hocs and casuals. The contracted players are: Downing, Shuttlewood, Ni.Shewring, S.Shewring, A.Underwood, M.Cox, Rose, Alfieri, Leigh, Freeman, Tyrrell.

Contracted player's availability and net attendance will be monitored throughout the season and if it becomes apparent that any player is not able to attend matches and/or nets to a reasonable level then it may be necessary for the player to consider changing to adhoc status and their place would then be offered to existing adhocs. (If more than one member applies selection would be based on availability, net attendance and any other relevant indications of commitment to the club).

It was decided that the number of contracted players should stay as 11 to aid selection and more importantly provide maximum opportunity to ad hoc players. (To illustrate this there are approximately four (maybe more) players who would like to take a contracted position but with 15 contracted players opportunities would be very scarce for any ad hocs outside of that pool).

All contracted players will pay a £20 fee for the season to demonstrate commitment and add to the club’s finances. However, any contracted players who pre-subscribe to winter nets will not have to pay the fee.

In addition to the existing selection policies (based mainly on fairness), selectors will also look at ad hoc players overall commitment in all aspects when selecting ad hoc players for the team. (eg net attendance, previous availability, and positive attitude towards club activity)

Finance

Club finances are negative at present, mainly due to £250 invested in free club caps. However it was felt that the long term position will be satisfactory once the season starts.

Match fees will remain at £10

Possibility of raffle at Fun Day (Action: Mat Freeman)

Kit

We now have enough for club requirements.

Balls, we must investigate the advantage (if any) of bulk buying good match balls. (Action: John Shuttlewood)

Selection

Same system as last season will continue.

Nick Shewring, John Shuttlewood and Andy Underwood all re-elected, and Nick re-appointed as the Chairman of Selectors.

It should be remembered that the single aim of the selectors is to ensure that everyone (contracted, adhoc and casual) feels they have fair opportunity to play cricket throughout the season. If anyone feels that they have not been treated fairly PLEASE do not bottle it up and brood at home over the situation. ANY grievances, big or small should be reported to Nick (even if he is the cause!) and the club will do their best to find a resolution. The selectors will probably not be able to keep everyone happy all of the time but they will try.

Selection will mainly be based on fairness and reward for commitment to the club, rather than ability.

Players should email in advance known unavailable dates to assist selectors (Action: Mat Freeman to develop spreadsheet)

Fixtures

Jim Downing re-appointed as fixture secretary

As many fixtures as possible, with the consensus of opinion being that it was better to have more rather than less with the weather, and also to give everyone as much opportunity to play as possible.

Captaincy

Same system as last year.

However, more opportunity will be given to rooky Captains with experienced cricketers acting as vice captain on such occasions.

Chairman of selectors will appoint Captain for each game.
