Clever play and words of wisdom

Yesterday saw a brilliant day out for stars of the Rosaneri sporting family on the lush turf of Essendon Golf Course in Hertfordshire.

The well organised event went very smoothly and Kevin Mully came out on top of a 14 runner field. Kevin played some brilliant golf and used the frozen conditions to his advantage with some clever play.

Well, some called it clever, others called it cheating ! Kevin, was in the first group on the course and enjoyed some amazing luck when his ball bounced on a frozen lake 4 times before bouncing onto the green. Instead of just enjoying his fortune and moving on, Kevin decided to smash up the ice so that those that followed could not share his fortune.

Although I didn’t get to enjoy the same fortune as Mr Mully, I did have a brilliant day out. My particular four ball was not only high on banter, but it was also a walking cricket lesson. The teacher in this four ball was none other than Roasneri batting legend Neil Tilley.

While waiting to tee off on one particular hole, Neil gave us a wonderful insight into the mysteries of “Timing”. This is a very interesting debate that deserves more than a snatched 5 minutes on a golf course with a batting guru, but Neil’s demonstration and explanation will hopefully lead to more runs next season to the other three members of the group.

Basically, it is all to do with playing the ball under your eyes rather than playing it out in front or to the side. To help put this into practice for the squad, Neil has kindly offered to attend a winter net to help build the squads basic batting technique.
