Further update

The promised site visit to the new indoor cricket facilities in Sawbridgeworth went ahead as planned, but it was not as straight forward as I had imagined.

Google maps had indicated that it was a simple enough journey, so I set off full of confidence and expectation. The first part of the journey was plain sailing, but once the small country roads kicked in my destination seemed a long way away.

After a few wrong decisions, and some timely three point turns I eventually pulled off the main road onto a dirt track that led to a farm that could easily have been a safe house for a gang of train robbers. Literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by farmland is the new home of indoor Hertfordshire cricket.

The roof was in the process of being completed as I turned the car around ready for the return journey. And to be fair, I didn’t want to hang around in case I had stumbled across a gang of Kenneth Noye type characters counting their loot.

A subsequent phone call upon arriving home, confirmed that I had indeed been to the correct location. The chap in charge assured me that they would be ready for opening on January the 16th.

If we do take up the opportunity to use these proposed first class facilities, we will need to make arrangements to make sure that everyone gets there on the first night. Those with Sat Nav should be ok, but those without will need to do their homework before setting off.

From Bullsmoor Lane Enfield, the journey is relatively easy and is 16.8 miles according to Google maps. (Hatfield came out at 15.1 miles) Basically it is A10, A414 towards Harlow and then 3.5 miles on smaller roads. For those who know the area, it is very near the Manor of Groves Golf Club.

A final decision will be made shortly, but I thought I would keep you up to date with all the latest developments.
