The Ad Hocs

In this final end of term report we take a look at how the Ad Hoc players got on in 2007.

Graham Sparrey – Massively underachieved this year for a man of his talent. His bowling was very good, but when he did play he was probably under bowled. Never got going with the bat and spent far too little time out in the middle. Next season will surely see Slaps reach his true potential and return a 50 for the club.

Neil Tilley – Averages a wonderful 155 for the club and registered the club’s first ever century with an imperious display in Derbyshire. A joy to watch for colleagues and spectators and his constant verbals are often priceless.

Stephen Underwood – Looks like a true all rounder in the making, and particularly proved himself as a top medium pace bowler with a couple of spells of accurate consistency. Handy with the bat, but probably needs to apply himself more to build a big score.

Graham Hooper – Visa issues have now been sorted and Graham is looking for a big season in 2008, now that he is no longer on the run from the authorities. Bowled well last year in his limited appearances, but is capable of so much more. Looked set for a match winning knock in Derbyshire, but shot selection let him down. Another who will be looking for a 50 next season.

Gareth Cox – Emerged late in the season as a promising fast bowler and solid middle order batsman. The bowling just needs an element of consistency from winter nets, and wickets will follow in 2008. Gareth’s batting is raw and powerful as demonstrated with good knocks against The Queens Head and Botany Bay.

Ben Underwood – Youngest of the Underwood 3, and a batsman of unknown potential. Batted very well in Harlow, but would certainly benefit from attending a net or two before the start of next season. Also a very strong fielder.

Paul Sindrey – Some good bowling performances last year without getting the wicket hauls that he deserved. Puts in 100% when bowling and always gives the batsman something to think about. Not so hot last year with the bat, but who could forget that catch to win the match against The Queens Head.

Neil McHugh – Only played two games last year, but bowled and batted well in both. Spent the rest of the season on loan to North Enfield, where he has developed into an opening batsman. Looking to make the Rosaneri opening batsman’s slot his own in a comeback for 2008.

Ian Cully – Played a couple of matches, but clearly looked in need of a net in both as he struggled to play fluent shots. For cameo roles in 2008, it may be vital to get to the ground early and blow off the cobwebs with a quick net to release his true potential.

Rob Tona – Had a good Steady Eddie season in 2007. Nothing spectacular, but always good for a few crucial runs and is more than capable of captaining the side into winning positions. However, a net or two could see his average boost itself into double figures.

Sean Adamson – What can I say about Sean ? Came into the side at the deep end against Farnham and batted beautifully to give the pinks a chance. On that sensational debut he looked confident, elegant, and like he had seen it all before to walk away with the man of the match award. But in complete contrast, Sean’s other game was a disastrous trip to Derbyshire. Who knows what next season holds ? But with Sean, always expect the unexpected.

Steve Williams – Developed through his limited appearances into a very useful strike bowler. Has a lovely “ Old fashioned” action and bowls at an uncomfortable pace for most batsmen. Didn’t get much opportunity with the bat in 2007, but didn’t show much promise when he did get the chance.
