Nick Shewring

These reports are designed so that the player in question can look at their season in terms of figures. Sometimes bar room chat and banter can hide the truth behind what individuals are achieving.

Today we take a look at how Nick Shewring’s season went.

Batting 2007:

Scores: 3, 0, 0, 1, 0, 3, 0, 15, 0, 0

50’s: 0

100’s: 0

Total runs: 22

Average: 2.2

4’s: 3

6’s: 0

Mode of dismissal:

Bowled, Bowled, Caught, Caught, Run out, Caught, Caught, Caught, Bowled, Stumped

Nick’s batting was a major disappointment both for himself and for the club. His mode of dismissal was very varied and his poor form was certainly not down to a lack of practice as he attended almost every net. The cameo 15 against The Queens Head should have been the boost he needed to end the season strongly, but instead it was followed by two more ducks.

Clearly lacking confidence, Nick needs a lucky break or two early next season to get his batting back on track. Time in the middle cannot be beaten to build confidence and Nick probably only spent a total of 20 minutes in the middle during the whole season.

Six ducks during a season may be a club record that he ends up holding for many years to come.

Bowling 2007:

4-0-23-2

3-0-23-0

2-0-9-0

3-0-12-1

3-0-16-2

7-0-55-0

8-1-28-1

5-0-20-0

6-0-55-2

8-0-39-0

6-0-34-1

Total for season: 63-1-386-11

Average: 35.1

Economy: 6.13

Method of dismissal:

Bowled, Caught, Stumped, Caught, Caught, Bowled, Bowled, Caught, Caught, Caught, Stumped

Nick’s bowling improved throughout the season and with a bit more luck and a few fielders who could catch, he could easily have reached the 20 wicket mark.

His first match of the season against Tendring was riddled with nerves and his wides count needed an additional column the scorebook. But since then, his consistency has been impressive and he has turned into a wicket taking weapon.

Next season will see Nick looking to bring down his average runs per wicket and to slightly lower his Economy, which are both very achievable targets. He has now established a good base level from which he needs to build, to move on from 2 fers and start getting into the bigger multiples of wickets per match.

Summary:

Nick is a stalwart of the nets and his continued attendance will further help him to develop his bowling consistency. His batting will come good in its own time with a touch of luck as previously mentioned.

It must be noted that Nick was the only ever present last season and his dedication to the club is phenomenal. Nick’s value to the team is massive, but if he can get that batting average up next year, it will move to a whole new level.

Nick’s provisional targets for next season will be 20 wickets and 100 runs.
