Graham Tyrrell

These reports are designed so that the player in question can look at their season in terms of figures. Sometimes bar room chat and banter can hide the truth behind what individuals are achieving.

Today Graham Tyrrell takes centre stage.

Graham went into the season as the club’s wicket keeper batsmen. His wicket keeping was exceptional, but his batting disappointed.

Batting 2007:

Scores: 8, 0, 8, 0, 1

50’s: 0

100’s: 0

Total runs: 17

Average: 3.4

4’s: 2

6’s: 0

Mode of dismissal:

Bowled, Bowled, Caught, Bowled, Caught

There are no real patterns to Graham’s mode of dismissal, which could suggest that bad luck rather than lack of ability was responsible for his below par average. Certainly his dismissal in the Farnham game when he opened the batting was against the best bowler the club played against all season. I was umpiring at the time, so was in a perfect position to comment. The ball moved one way in the air and then moved the other way off the pitch. That particular ball would have got anyone out, even some professionals.

Bowling 2007:

None

Summary:

Graham’s wicket keeping was of a very high standard and his razor sharp stumping ability has become a big weapon for the team. He also managed to secure the Golden Fielder trophy from only playing in about half of the games.

However, Graham is now regarded as a specialist wicket keeper and no longer as an all rounder. His batting always promises so much in his brief net appearances, but it never translates itself out into the middle. Maybe a big score is just around the corner, but until he puts form in the book he will probably have to rebuild his batting career from the bottom of the order.

Winter work on batting consistency is strongly advised if time from work allows.
