Now that a month of dust has settled on the 2007 season I thought it was time to take a closer look at our results.
Hindsight is a wonderful tool, but here is my assessment of what happened and the lessons we learned.
Tendring: The opening game of the season came too quickly, and many top judges have commented that if we played the same match as the last game we would have won. Sheridan batted brilliantly to record the club’s 2nd ever individual half century. But, the main problem with our performance was the amount of extras we gave away. If we had of cut the extras out completely we would have won, simple as that.
Enfield: We were battered by a superior team. Our bowling was just about acceptable, but our batting fell well short of the standard required.
Edmonton Teachers: A good team performance, but the “Talented Geography supply teacher” tipped the balance.
Jack of Diamonds: Batted first and after a steady start totally imploded. Never really had a chance of defending such a poor total, but a spirited opening salvo from the bowlers restored club pride.
Jack of Diamonds: Rain effected stroll in the park. We bowled very well and Neil Tilley quickly blasted them into submission.
Edmonton Teachers: Solid batting from the team and a fine 50 from Andy Underwood. The bowling was patchy, but the good stuff was good enough to record a good victory.
Farnham: This was a good battling performance from the pinks and although we did not post a massive total, we rebuilt from a poor position to enable us to compete. The bowling was tidy and aggressive and Mat Freeman bowled his best spell in living memory. If Mat had of got a sniff of luck we probably would have won. Farnham actually fielded a strong team and we only went down by 4 wickets
Edmonton Teachers: Another rain effected match, this time though the rain was the winner and the match was declared a draw. Rosaneri bowled well and I feel that the manageable run chase would have been achieved by a very strong batting line up.
Ockbrook & Borrowash: What a game. It had everything, but a pink victory. The bowlers put in a brilliant display against top standard opposition, with Jim taking 5-35. Neil Tilley raced to the club’s first century and a late rattle from the tail saw the pinks fall 1 run short. The only negative point was the extremely poor fielding display from Rosaneri.
Harlow: A convincing victory against an over cautious club 3rd XI. The bowling was economical and accurate and limited the home side to a low total. Rosaneri’s batting was brisk and controlled and a solid victory was lodged.
Queens Head: A good victory but Rosaneri nearly fell victims to complacency by grossly underestimating the opposition. The Queens Head bowling was very good and Rosaneri were made to scrap for victory. The bowling was good and completed the job with a bit to spare in the end.
Edmonton: Most senior players are still scratching their heads over this one. Rosaneri posted a massive total and Andy Underwood smashed a brilliant century. The team batting was perfect with a solid foundation being achieved before the batsmen opened up to notch a big total. The bowling was not too good though and Edmonton raced to a convincing victory.
Botany Bay: A very strong Botany Bay team won the day, but Rosaneri battled all the way. In fact, the bowling was superb, but as usual the batting let us down.
Botany Bay: An even stronger Botany Bay team travelled to Lincoln Road and inflicted another crushing defeat on the pinks. Again the bowling held up, but more batting mishaps ensured a loss was registered.
