John Shuttlewood

These reports are designed so that the player in question can look at their season in terms of figures. Sometimes bar room chat and banter can hide the truth behind what individuals are achieving.

Today the spotlight is on us John Shuttlewood.

John started the season as a specialist batsman, but ended it as a specialist bowler. John had a particularly tough time with the bat, but his complete re-branding saw him put in some solid performances to contribute to the team effort.

Batting 2007:

Scores: 1, 0, 4, 1, 3, 2

50’s: 0

100’s: 0

Total runs: 11

Average: 1.83

4’s: 0

6’s: 0

Mode of dismissal:

Run out, Bowled, Bowled, Bowled, Bowled, Lbw

John will want to forget 2007 from the batting point of view. Being bowled in 4 from 6 dismissals does suggest that John particularly needs to work on basic shot selection and his forward defensive stroke.

Bowling 2007:

2-0-10-0

3-0-21-1

3-0-19-1

7-0-24-1

3.3-0-29-0

5-0-35-1

Total – 23.3-0-138-4

Average – 34.5

Economy – 6

Wickets taken:

Bowled, Caught, Bowled, Stumped

Summary:

The re-branding worked wonders and John turned his season around with some excellent bowling spells. The highlight of his figures was his wonderful effort against Harlow when he returned 7-0-24-1.

John has the potential to be a very good weapon for Rosaneri in the bowling department next season if he can improve his consistency over the winter. Part of the improvement will be done in the nets, but most of it will be done in the mind. John’s main problem has been that he tries too many variations. At our level of cricket wickets are taken by putting the batsmen under pressure and them getting themselves out. If John can keep 6 from 6 on or around the stumps, his wicket count will rocket next year.

Next season is a big season for John as he has to step up to be a regular and consistent bowler who can help propel Rosaneri to victory. From the promise shown in 2007, it is definitely possible, but John is another for whom the winter nets will be vital.
