Winter league hopes dashed

After numerous emails and telephone calls the club are disappointed to report that there will be no winter indoor cricket this year.

Our local league takes place in Waltham Abbey, and would have been an ideal location for everyone to get to. However, the organiser of the league reports that demand for indoor league cricket has never been higher and he cannot physically accommodate any more teams. He described the current situation as waiting for dead mans shoes. We have been the 5th or 6th team asking for inclusion that he has had to turn away.

The season would have started this Sunday and runs until the first week in March. Every team play in Divisions within a league structure and there is also a cup competition. The whole thing sounds brilliant and would have been something that the club would clearly have benefited from.

We will continue to search for other venues, but realistically it will now be in preparation for next year’s participation.

Although we are not playing winter league cricket, it does not mean that we will not be playing cricket at all this winter. Winter nets will go ahead for the much needed practice we need before the 2008 season gets under way. Dates of when the nets start will be posted on the website when known.
