Club explore winter options

The club are currently exploring a new and exciting option to ease us through the winter. Urgent research has been undertaken into the possibility of joining an indoor winter league. It appears that our local league is based in Waltham Abbey and runs from late October through to early March.

The location and time span seem ideal, but we are still awaiting a response to an email asking how and if we can join the league.

The format of cricket seems to be 6 a side with games lasting an hour. 4’s and 6’s are scored off the long straight boundary and 1’s are scored off the ceiling and other walls. All players are expected to wear full cricket attire and bowlers are limited to a certain amount of overs.

Some of our big hitters like Shell, Bloater, Tony and Steve must be licking their lips right now at the chance of cutting loose in such an environment. If nothing else, it will teach us valuable lessons in pressure situations.

The standard of the leagues seems to be very mixed and I think we could hold our own in the bottom level. However, our participation is far from certain and we may well have missed the boat for this year already.

More details will follow as soon as we find out more.
