Another resistant batting display seals award

After a problem with certain players email accounts being rejected by Yahoo, the votes have been counted and it can be revealed that Jim Downing was man of the match against Botany Bay.

Jim bowled a nice spell at a crucial stage of the game, but more importantly he batted through gritted teeth and refused to let Botany Bay have it all their own way. He went out to the crease in the second over and remained unbeaten at the end of the 33rd over.

Jim wins a matching set of Lynx shower gel and deodorant.

Below is a sample of this weeks voter’s comments:

Jim - reliable batting again to avoid an embarrassing score.

No question this week. For me it's got to be Jim. His transformation is complete from a bowler & handy tail ender to batting stalwart, anchoring the side and bowling magician, always conjuring something up. Unquestionably the backbone of the side. He just needs to turn his hand to keeping to challenge Bloater for the 'most all-round All Rounder' title !
Honourable mentions for Coxy, stellar in the field again this week & the catch he saw late but took well serves to dismiss last week's spillages as just a blip; and also for Mat, batting above his game in going on the offensive (and riding his luck) and making the oppo juggle their bowlers in order to stem the run hemorrhage but ultimately his inexperience at batting for long periods and overconfidence in achieving a lifetime best score were his undoing.

hmmmm, toughie this week. I vote for either an outstanding return with ball or bat, or a general good showing with all 3 disciplines within cricket. This being batting, bowling, and fielding. Everyone played well and gave their all so let’s whittle the candidates down. A good batting display was vital if we were to come near Bays target. 3 batsmen managed to reach double figures, S. Underwood, Freeman and Downing. That narrows the field a bit. All 3 bowled well. Captaincy can’t be used to judge here as only one can be measured with that criteria. Matt did captain well though. Looking at fielding, one of the trio touched the ball miles more than his peers and saved countless runs as well as taking a brilliant catch down at his ankles. My vote goes to Steven Underwood. Well done sir. Ad hoc players enable the vast majority of matches taking place with us fielding 11 players and deserve recognition.
