Practice makes perfect

Tonight sees a continuation of the Wednesday night net at Hatfield. As usual the session will start at 9pm, but players are advised to arrive at 8.45pm so that a prompt start can be achieved.

Recent events have highlighted the importance of a net before a game. Not so much in terms of batting as luck can still play a major part however much you practice. Just ask Shell. He practiced last Wednesday like a man possessed, but then on the big stage he got unlucky early on and snicked one to the wicket keeper.

But from the bowling point of view the practice is vital. Mat, Jim, Nick, and Pits all attended nets last week, and all bowled beautifully from their very first balls during the match. Without the regular practice there may well have been a lot more wides and long hops.

This could well be the last net of the summer, as we are due to take a break to mark the end of British summertime and the end of a wonderful season.

Winter nets will be on the agenda at some point, but actual dates are yet to be decided. With the club’s financial situation at present the winter nets will almost certainly run on similar lines to last year. (i.e on a pre subscribed basis)

We must salvage our season on Saturday after two heavy defeats, so if you can attend please do. Even if you are not playing on Saturday, by attending you will be contributing to the team effort.
