The votes have been counted and this week's man of the match was Mat Freeman.
This is Mat's first man of the match award for the club and it is long overdue. This week again he returned sensational bowling figures, and as always batsmen find it impossible to score runs from him. His bowling was even more impressive as he had to bowl from the end that nobody wanted to bowl from. If he had of bowled from the top end, he could well have ended up with a fivefer.
Below are a selection of comments from the voters on this weeks award:
Plenty of positives despite the result - Mat gets it for me this time.
This is a VERY close call between, Jim, Steve and Matt. Jim for his very
tight bowling and steadying the ship at a crucial time with the bat and
enabling us to reach a respectable score. Steve bowled beautifully and was
causing the opposition all sorts of problems and took some very important
wickets, however my man of the match has to go to Matt. After experiencing
first hand the difficulty bowling up hill, Matt made this art look decidely
simple. His pace, coupled with the line and length would have caused any
batsman problems and his figures speak for themselves, had I not got out, I
feel he may well have shined with the bat to, therefore my man of the match
goes to Matt Freeman.
Tough choice - Jim had a good spell picking up two wickets and being economical but bowled at the easier end, he also steadied the batting to achieve some respectability. BUT, Mat bowled an excellent opening spell against their top order batsmen up the hill. In the cold light of day this spell gave greater confidence to our ability to chase the total.
Without Mat our task would have been impossible. My MOM - Mat Freeman.
My vote goes to Ian for making the perennially difficult keeping job especially to Rosaneri bowlers look easy despite only keeping once in a blue moon, taking an excellent stumping & playing a decent anchor role in the middle order, only let down by a lack of touch attributable to lack of match practice/net time. Honourable mention goes to Jim & Gareth for a typically gritty rearguard run chase plus to Steve for generating so many wicket taking chances when getting the ball in the right place, making the most of the downhill assistance and bounce in the pitch.
