Bloater takes the plaudits

This week’s man of the match should have been a no contest, although a centurion has already been turned over once this year. But, on this occasion the centurion was successful by 10 votes to 1. The odd 1 vote being Bloater demonstrating his modest qualities by voting for someone else.

Andy Underwood was clearly the man of the match for all observers by having the temperament and basic skills to compile such a mammoth score. He approached his innings by applying the Ramprakash 10 ball survival hurdle and then gradually got his eye in before unleashing some lusty blows. The pinnacle being a delicious straight drive off Sir Garfield for four runs.

Below are a selection of comments from the voters:

"Bloater. A century and faultless wicket keeping. He is one of the few who looks up to the standard required when playing club sides. He answered the call made in an earlier 'straight talk', for a century score. A vulgar display of power and an exhibition of exquisite timing that would draw breath from a Swiss watch maker. Coxy deserves a purple heart for valour. Tony had one of his impeccable fielding days and batted in a manner that if carried throughout the 40 overs by the whole 11 batsmen, may have got us a total of 300."

"Any Underwood. Anybody that gets 115 runs at our level deserves recognition."

"No hesitation. Bloater."

"Turned out to be easier than expected, my choice is inevitably Andy for not only the century but a valiant attempt to rescue what looked (from the boundary) to be some decidedly poor bowling on the whole."

"Honourable mentions: Coxy & Tony for their grit in the face of a very notable attack plus faultless fielding. Jim for his now customary acceleration through the gears when batting, ensuring total safety coupled with plenty to bother the scorer. The ideal batting foil when making a big score at the other end."
